Project 10 - focal lengths and different viewpoints

3746 200mm

3747 18mm
Again I chose to shoot bales
3746 was shot at 200mm. It looks like a normal bale and would be how people would normally shoot a close-up of a bale. It looks in proportion to the size of the bale just visible at the top left corner of the image. The viewer feels that the bale is just a normal size - we see them all the time.
3747 was shot at 18mm. The bale appears huge and the difference in size between this bale and the one in the background behind it is emphasised, even though they are actually of course the same size. The viewer is made to feel small against what appears to be a giant bale. The front-to-back distance of the bale appearsmuch longer in this image. I had to crouch to get the whole bale in view, and more sky is visible adding to the giant feel of the bale
